Essential Oils and Massage Therapy, Simply Amazing!
Have you ever had a massage? A massage is great to aid in the healing of inflamed tissue and muscles, it is also wonderful in the relaxation of the body and mind to help in stress relief. A massage by it’s self is an amazing tool that can be used in your health and healing. Now think of combining that tool with another great tool, essential oils.
Essential oils truly enhances a massage, and intensifies the effectiveness of healing and relaxation. Essential oils also adds to the what a massage with oils can do for you, it adds the dynamic of immune enhancement and homeostasis. It all depends on the oils selected, and the type of work done by the masseur.
When using essential oils in a massage, be sure to dilute with a proper carrier oil. My favorite carrier oil is fractionated Coconut oil, my second favorite is Almond oil. Both oils are easily absorbed by the skin and easily mix with the essential oils. The reason it is so important to dilute the oils in a massage, is that the work done by the masseur does aid in the oils to be more readily absorbed and essential oils come very concentrated. Be sure you are aware of how your body and skin will react to the oils so you know how much to dilute them. If in doubt start heavily diluted and test a small portion of skin until you are sure you know how your skin and body will react.
The oils selected and the techniques used by the masseur are best to be planned, they will enhance if they are not matched properly, however when they are properly planned and matched, there is a certain synergy that happens to truly make an amazingly helpful massage. For example if the person seeking a massage is desiring relaxation a great oil to select would be lavender oil, and the technique of the Masseur would be slow movements that can vary in pressure and usually involve using larger portions of the hand to spread out the pressure and enhance the relaxation. Another great oil to select for stress relief is the Doterra blend called Balance.
When the desire of the massage is to improve general health and to enhance the Immune system, the masseur would focus specific areas of the hands and feet as well as specific areas of the body, usually in a slower technique, using oils such as the Doterra blend OnGuard or the amazing melaleuca essential oil.
For me the common desire for a massage is to help with healing of muscles or inflamed tissue. For this I have found Doterra has created some great oil blends, one called AromaTouch and one called DeepBlue. Of the two my favorite is DeepBlue, I have used it in massages on myself due to muscle injuries from my workouts in the Martial Arts, or in weight lifting.
Homeostasis is a term that is not common to many people, it refers to a state of balance of the health of the body and mind. For this there is not a real specific technique to be used by the masseur, generally speaking, individual masseur will have techniques they prefer. There are two great oils to be used when seeking homeostasis, one is Wild Orange and the other, one of my absolute favorite oils, peppermint oil.
Massages are amazing, our bodies are made to heal themselves and the healing power of touch will drastically improve the healing process of the body. When combining the tool of massage with the healing power of essential oils, and amazing synergy is created and an incredible enhancement to the healing or relaxation of the massage will be reached. Give that combination a try, you will be amazed.
